Listen…Till You Disappear provided hands-on methods to deal with both internal and external conflict that seemed to be getting in the way of the life I wanted. Interestingly, once I started really listening to others and to my own inner voices, I was able to drop my resistance and relax. I enjoyed and appreciated Dr. Kettelhut’s way of simplifying what seemed like complex and abstract concepts. When I did the exercises, these concepts became part of my experiential knowing. With simple yet powerful exercises sprinkled throughout, I recommend this book to anyone who is tired of struggling and resisting what is!

Listening to the world is connecting with what works, what flows naturally and easily, what would happen of its own accord were you not thinking it should be otherwise.

chapter 3

Meet the author, Dr. Martin Kettelhut

Dr. Martin Kettelhut’s coaching business, Listening Is The Key, was born out of a desire to incorporate his PhD in philosophy with modern day coaching. After moving to New York City, “Doc” co-founded and became the Head Coach for The Center of Excellence, a communications consulting firm where he doubled revenue and tripled the company size resulting is scalable growth.

About ten years into running my own coaching practice—once I had paid off student loans, traveled to Africa, and bought a house (meaning, I had achieved a substantial level of comfort)—my client, Joyce, said to me, “I really want to thank you for this perfect life I’ve got.” First I thought, “But all I’ve done is listen and care," but then I realized that nothing had contributed more to my success and happiness—as well as to Joyce’s and many other clients’ success and happiness--than learning to listen.

Yes, I learned a great deal about listening from the classics of coaching like Myles Downing's "Effective Coaching" and Susan Campbell's "Getting Real," but most of it I imbibed from meditation. Then it hit me that sharing what I'd learned about listening would enable and empower my clients to develop THEIR businesses with the same ease, effectiveness and relish.

I couldn't wait to give others the same opportunity to grow and succeed (without spending a lot of time, money, and effort, but instead) by simply listening deeply, connecting with true curiosity, and enjoying relationships. That's the germ of the book LISTEN…Till You Disappear!

Martin reminds us of the power of simply listening. The challenge is how to practice and this book shows us exactly how to do that. You will love it!
— Hans Phillips
